Marlene Brenden & Linda Bates

Marlene Brenden came to Chico in 1978. She graduated from Chico State with a B.A. in Health Education. She holds a Multiple Subjects teaching credential and has taught for over 20 years. She has a Masters in School Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential.

Linda Bates is a long time resident of Butte County and a Chico State graduate with a B.A. in English and Liberal Studies. She holds a Multiple Subjects Credential and an Administrative Services Credential. She has been a teacher for 12 years and a school administrator for seven. Linda has been trained in the state approved Barton Reading and Spelling System. This program has proven successful for those with Dyslexia, ADD and ADHD.

Mission Statement:

· To serve as a non-profit education and training facility for clients of all ages with dyslexia or other special learning needs

· To provide intervention programs for remediation or academic advancement, through kindergarten readiness classes and tutoring services.

· To promote, educate and encourage the training of volunteers and professionals in the current research and methods of instruction of clients with dyslexia and other instructional support methods.

· To assist all participants, parents, clients and educators, to reach their full potential through knowledge, caring and a positive environment.

Chico Center for Learning tutors are California credentialed teachers.

Tutoring sessions are one to one with specific tutor.

Funds will be used to serve the community by providing comprehensive instructional services focusing on clients with dyslexia, struggling with reading, or in need of academic support.
